How does karaoke night work if you have never done it before?
Most karaoke nights work the same way. Add a name to the list, wait for it to be called, and take the stage when it comes up, with the words scrolling in front of you the whole time.
Nobody at Siege has to already know the system to take a turn on a Friday night. A first song is easiest picked from something already known by heart, since the room is there to cheer, not judge.
What kind of songs can you sing at karaoke?
A karaoke song list usually runs from decades-old classics to newer hits, across country, pop and rock, so there is rarely a genre with nothing on it.
A song already known by heart tends to work better than one picked for style. On a Friday karaoke night at Siege, the room is easier to win over with a familiar chorus than with a difficult one nobody can sing along to.
What happens between karaoke turns on a Friday at Siege?
The night does not stop while someone else has the mic. A group can throw an axe on the lanes, rack up a game of pool or order a pizza between turns, then come back to the stage when their name is called.
That is what makes a Friday at Siege different from a karaoke bar with nothing else in the room. A table that gets bored between songs has somewhere else to be for ten minutes, and karaoke is only one part of the night.
Do you have to sing to enjoy karaoke night at Siege?
No. The dance floor, the axe lanes, the pool tables and the bar all run the same as any other night Siege is open, so a Friday works for someone who never wants the mic.
A group with one singer and five spectators still has plenty to do between songs, from the dance floor to the pool tables.
Is Siege a karaoke bar, or just a bar with karaoke?
Siege is not a dedicated karaoke bar that runs the mic every night. Karaoke is one night, Friday, inside a venue built around axe lanes, a golf simulator and seven pool tables, so a search for a karaoke bar in Ada, OK finds Siege because Friday night covers that job as well as a dedicated one would.
The difference shows up in what else is around the stage. A karaoke bar with nothing else in the room asks a non-singer to just wait it out, while at Siege the golf simulator, the axe lanes and the pool tables are running the same night the stage is.
Who can use the dance floor at Siege?
Everyone can: Siege's dance floor is open to every age whenever Siege is open, and it is there on karaoke Fridays as well as the other walk-in nights. Kids and adults share it the way they share the rest of the room.
A dance floor and karaoke are a common pairing anywhere, since the songs people pick to sing are often the same ones people want to dance to.
What makes a good first karaoke song?
A good first karaoke song is one the singer knows by heart and the room probably knows too. A chorus everyone can join takes the pressure off, and a mid-tempo song with a comfortable range is kinder than a big ballad with a key change at the end.
Short songs help as well: three minutes on the mic feels a lot shorter than six. Going up with a friend at Siege's Friday karaoke works too, since a duet splits the nerves in half.
Where did karaoke come from?
Karaoke started in Japan in the 1970s, built around a machine that played the music track without the vocals, so anyone could sing along into a microphone. The word itself comes from the Japanese for "empty orchestra": the band's track, minus the band.
That same idea, an instrumental track with the words on a screen, is still how karaoke works most places, decades later and half a world from where it started. In Ada, Siege runs karaoke every Friday night.
What should you bring to karaoke night at Siege?
Karaoke itself asks for little more than a group and a song in mind, plus the online waiver, which everyone in the group signs before playing, throwing or not.
A group celebrating something, like a birthday, can still walk in on a Friday for karaoke at Siege without booking anything ahead. For a bigger celebration that wants the whole venue, a private party is the better fit than a normal Friday night.
What is the difference between karaoke and live band karaoke?
Standard karaoke plays a pre-recorded instrumental track with the lyrics on a screen, and anyone in the room can queue up a turn. Live band karaoke swaps the track for a band playing along in real time, usually with a smaller, fixed song list the band already knows.
